The Dean’s Office of the School of Business-Camden (SBC, School 52) will list new policies, procedures and/or changes for the benefit of the University community. It is the students’ responsibility to be informed. Please pay careful attention and make every effort to be aware of policies that may affect you. Official notices will be published in the Gleaner the first week of the month. Please direct your questions regarding these notices to sbcinfo@camden.rutgers.edu.
(1) Accounting Major Changes (Effective Immediately) Accounting majors must complete 3 credits in federal tax accounting. This requirement may fulfilled by the completion of either Individual Federal Tax Accounting (52:010:383) or Corporate Federal Tax Accounting (52:010:384). (2) Business Policy Enrollment (Effective January 2009) Only students who have completed the Business Core (see your curriculum worksheet) and have completed at least 90 credits will be permitted to enroll in Business Policy (52:620:450). Students should meet with an Academic Services staff member to adjust graduation plans to comply with this policy, if needed. There will no exceptions or considerations for special circumstances! (3) Registration Restrictions for NON-SBC Students (Effective Immediately) Any student who is not enrolled in the School of Business-Camden (sch 52) and has not declared a business major will NOT be permitted access to upper level business courses. (4) New Jersey Community College Graduates (AA or AS only) Transfer students, who graduated from a NJ Community College with an AA or AS degree in May 2008 or after, may be eligible for the provisions of the “Lampitt Law.” Students must present proof of graduation to the Academic Services Office to confirm eligibility within their first year. (5) Intra-University (School to School) Transfers to the School of Business All students who plan to transfer to a different college within the University must do so using the School to School (S2S) intra-university transfer application process. ALUMNI NEWS The ReUnion 2009 will take place this year on Saturday, May 16, 2009 on the Rutgers – Camden Campus (yes, before Commencement even happens). The ReUnion is a great chance for us to welcome you into the Rutgers University Alumni Association and for you to connect with classmates one final time before commencement, network with our alumni from previous years (and various work fields) and say your good-byes to some of your favorite professors. This year’s ReUnion will take place on the Rutgers – Camden Campus on May 16th with a variety of programs and events throughout the day. BLDP Updates Congratulations Class of 2009!! This year six students of the Class of 2009 have completed the necessary requirements to receive the Business Leader Development Program (BLDP) designation on their transcripts. The BLDP students were recently recognized at the School of Business-Camden’s Student Honors and Service Awards Ceremony on April 24. During their enrollment in the SBC these students served in leadership roles or demonstrated significant initiative in organizations and activities within the SBC, their university, and/or their communities. This year’s BLDP group consists of Ibiyemi Amoo Vanessa Bensimon-Mellul Valerie Christ Michael Levy Melissa Smith Nikki Spina. Congratulations and good job! It’s Not Too Late… …to apply for the Fall 2009 BLDP seminar “Great Financial Disasters: Their Causes and Consequences,” to be taught by Dr. Troy Janes. There are several spaces remaining. This seminar will examine significant business failures in history in an attempt to learn what causes businesses to fail, how these failures affect society, and how governments and organizations react to business failures. Additional topics will include bankruptcy law, the prediction of business failures, and fraud. Dr. Troy Janes, Assistant Professor of Accounting (tjanes@camden.rutgers.edu), has professional experience both as an auditor and real estate consultant at Ernst & Young. The seminar will meet Friday mornings 9 – 11:40 a.m.
Admission to the BLDP seminar is by application only, and students may apply online (at the website address above). Additionally, applications must be supported by two reference letters—one from a professor/instructor, the other from a non-relative, preferably by a supervisor or employer. BUSINESS POLICY As School of Business Students, you will take Business Policy as our capstone course. A capstone course requires you to integrate the foundations of business that you have studied throughout your curriculum. Eight key courses are especially relevant: Management Accounting, Introduction to Financial Accounting, Principles of Marketing, Principles of Finance, MIS, Management Science, Operations Management, and Organizational Behavior.
To help you prepare, we are doing two things:
A highlight of Business Policy is that you will have the opportunity to participate in the Capstone Business Simulation, used by over 500 schools worldwide. It is also used by many major corporations to train their executives, giving you an advantage in the job market. An exciting feature is that you will be able to compare your performance to students at other top schools. This semester, we are proud that several of our current students have placed in the top ranks of students around the world!
CAREER CENTER Congratulations to the Class of 2009 on completing your degrees from the Rutgers Camden School of Business. The Career Center will be open throughout the summer to assist graduates who are in a job search or with plans for continuing education. If your plans are set, be sure to complete our quick Class of 2009 Graduate Survey. It only takes a few minutes and can be found at: http://cccems.rutgers.edu:8181/ Students who complete the survey are eligible for our annual pre-graduation Bookstore Certificate Raffle. COURSE NEWS Summer 09 – New Elective in Summer I -Corporate Entrepreneurship and Innovation:
Dr. Day is offering a new course in Corporate Entrepreneurship. This exciting course will teach you how to develop new and innovative strategies through creating new market spaces and new products/services to fill them. During this class, we will use video cases, class exercises and games to help students comprehend the tools, techniques and frameworks that make this possible. We will try to do much of the work during class so as to minimize the need for homework to be assigned. This is designed to be a course that is fun and insightful. Please join us for a class that should prove useful to your future and have a great time while doing it. Students will work in teams on many of the course activities. There is no textbook for the course. Your website for this course is being built in Sakai now. There are also no prerequisites for this course,

NJ HONORS ASSOCIATION The New Jersey Collegiate Business Administration Association Honor Society recognizes the very highest academic achievements of undergraduate students pursuing their studies in the field of business. RUTGERS-CAMDEN LEARNING CENTER The Rutgers-Camden Learning Center will be open during the Summer terms to provide students with tutorial assistance for a variety of courses. Tutoring will begin on Wednesday May 27th and continue through until Friday August 7th.
