BLDP NOTICE - New!! Changes to the Fall 2008 BLDP Seminar For the first time, next fall semester’s BLDP Seminar, “Business Success,” taught by Dr. Gayle Porter will meet on Thursday evenings once a week. Prior to this time, all BLDP seminars had been offered on Friday mornings, which precluded many of our SBC part-time students from participating. If there is adequate demand, future BLDP seminars may also be offered in the evenings.
Some of the skills stressed in Dr. Gayle Porter’s seminar are résumé building, learning interviewing skills, and networking. An integral component of the seminar—about 50% of the class meetings—involves local business leaders coming on campus to talk to the seminar participants about their particular areas of expertise and to offer their knowledgeable perspectives about various professional topics and issues. These outside speakers will also coach students on how to pursue their own success—career choice, personal development plans, and how to get the job they want and to survive it once they're there.
Admission to the three-credit seminar is by application only and must also be supported by two reference letters. Students can apply online at http://camden-sbc.rutgers.edu/BLDP/default.asp. The deadline to apply for the Fall 2008 semester BLDP seminar is Friday, March 28, 2008, at 5 p.m., and the two supporting letters must also be received by that date. (Before you disappear for Spring Break, make sure that you have made your requests of your letter writers before you leave!) Of the two letters of reference, one must be from a professor or instructor, the other from a non-relative (preferably a former boss or supervisor) who can attest to the applicant’s character, motivation, and/or leadership potential. Seminar space is limited to 15 students. If you have any additional questions, you can contact the director of the BLDP, Allie Miller, at ldrshp@camden.rutgers.edu.
