Dear Students,

This special email is being sent to inform you about the Maintenance of Accreditation Process that the School of Business is undergoing this Spring 2009.

The Rutgers School of Business-Camden was accredited by the Associate to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 1995.  AACSB International was founded in 1916 and began its accreditation function with the adoption of the first standards in 1919.

Accreditation is a process of voluntary, non-governmental review of educational institutions and programs. Institutional accreditation reviews entire colleges and universities. Specialized agencies award accreditation for professional programs and academic units in particular fields of study. As a specialized agency, AACSB International grants accreditation of undergraduate and graduate business administration and accounting programs.

On March 1st through 3rd, a team will visit the School of Business to assess our programs. Since we are already accredited, we will be undergoing a process called the “Maintenance of Accreditation Review.”  The team members, who are Deans and Directors from other accredited institutions, will be meeting with faculty, staff, and some students over the three day visitation period.  Members of the team may ask to speak with you in the hallway or stop into your classes. They may ask you about your experiences and the learning goals of the business program. This is very important so please answer them respectfully and professionally on our behalf.

Our curriculum is organized around specific learning goals that have been adopted by the faculty. Many of you may have experienced our learning assessments in your classes during the past year.  Learning was assessed through course-embedded measures and processes were put in place to collect, analyze, distribute, and use the assessment results for continuous improvement.

The Learning Goals for the Undergraduate Business program are as follows:  1) General Management Knowledge  (the understanding of basic functions of business and functional area concepts), 2) Critical Thinking and Analytical Decision Making (analyze, interpret, and solve business problems using quantitative approaches where relevant), 3) Teamwork and Interpersonal Relations (students will work well in teams and related interpersonally with others), 4) Communications Impact and Effectiveness (demonstration of oral presentation skills and strong written language skills), 5) Ethical reasoning (identification of ethical issues related to the management of people, and/or the marketing of products and services, and 6) Technological Fluency (demonstration of information technology literacy).

AACSB International accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools, worldwide. Institutions that earn accreditation confirm their commitment to quality and continuous improvement through a rigorous and comprehensive peer review. AACSB International accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in management education. We go through this process every 5 years.

AACSB International accreditation assures stakeholders that business schools:

Ø    Manage resources to achieve a vibrant and relevant mission.

Ø    Advance business and management knowledge through faculty scholarship.

Ø    Provide high-caliber teaching of quality and current curricula.

Ø    Cultivate meaningful interaction between students and a qualified faculty.

Ø    Produce graduates who have achieved specified learning goals.
