In October 2004 the faculty of Rutgers, School of Business-Camden approved a new program, the Business Leader Development Program (BLDP).
The BLDP provides an opportunity for students to participate in and
be rewarded and recognized for their leadership initiative. The BLDP is
not a formulaic program in which a fixed set of activities must be
completed but, rather, offers each student an opportunity to participate
in a range of activities, tailoring the program to his/her own
interests. Completion of the BLDP requires an accumulation of verified
leadership involvement at the time of graduation. One required component
of the BLDP is to enroll in at least one BLDP seminar course. The BLDP
seminar is by application only and counts as a general business elective
fro most majors/concentrations. The seminar is offered each semester,
and its topics are intended to appeal to students with diverse
backgrounds, i.e., students do not need in-depth background in any
particular discipline. Proposed seminar topics for upcoming semesters

About the Seminar:
The focus of this seminar is to prepare students for leadership
roles in a variety of settings, with recognition that the task
will differ depending on their career choices and changing
circumstances over time. The class will enable students to
understand their social styles and key in on leadership
qualities as well as network with local business leaders,
executives and entrepreneurs who will offer their own career
coaching and insights into running a business, leadership and
corporate talent management. Most of the speakers will come to
the campus to meet with the class but on occasion, travel to
visit their places of business may be an option.
About the Professor:
Kathy McCaffrey is the former Ethics Officer at Space Systems
Company for Delaware Valley Operations at Lockheed Martin. Her
recent retirement from Lockheed Martin caps more than 35 years
of industry experience encompassing finance, accounting,
contract practices, government compliance as well as consulting
on employee and organizational development. As the first outside
executive to teach a BLDP seminar, she is expanding her
partnership with Rutgers School of Business Camden in preparing
our students for life after graduation.
Who Can Apply:
Any SBC student of sophomore standing or higher is eligible to
apply for the seminar, and the 3 credits earned from the seminar
are accepted as a business elective for most majors and
concentrations. A student can take the seminar without
completing any of the other requirements for the BLDP.

Each application must be supported by two reference letters. One
of the references must be from a professor or instructor, the
other from a non-relative (preferably a current or former
employer or supervisor) who can attest to the applicant’s
character, motivation, and/or leadership potential. All
reference letters should be directed to: BLDP Director, School

Your application will not be considered complete until the two
reference letters have been received.

The Business Leader Development Program is a customized approach through
which high potential students develop the skills and habits of
leadership to carry forward into their business careers.

potential in high-caliber School of Business students
2. By promoting the program, we create awareness of special
opportunities available in the School of Business, from which each
individual can select his or her preferred activities by which to excel.
3. Through special recognition for program completion, we offer a
mechanism for showcasing student’s leadership during their time at
Rutgers.
4. With ongoing involvement of area executives and past program
participants, we supply exceptional networking opportunities to
facilitate career opportunities.
